dada
Dada 100, Multiple venues, Zurich, Switzerland: To make the most of the Dada Jubilee, a trip to Zurich is highly recommended. A significant number of the countless exhibitions marking the art movement’s centenary can be found in and around Zurich. The birthplace of Dadaism, Cabaret Voltaire, is one of many venues hosting a suitably wild, weird and wonderful schedule of exhibitions, events and retrospectives. dada100zuerich2016.ch

Paris, France:
Paris, France: Monumenta, the bi-annual exhibition of – the clue’s in the name – a monumental art installation, returns to the Grand Palais with commissioned artist Huang Yong Ping, an important representative of China’s artistic avant-garde who lives and works in Paris. His elaborate works often feature giant animals, so the soaring Belle Époque structure may well temporarily become a glass menagerie of sorts. grandpalais.fr
Bosch. The Centenary Exhibition, Museo del Prado, Madrid, Spain: Hieronymus Bosch is having a bit of a moment. His home country is marking the 500th anniversary of his death with a string of exhibitions and events, Leonardo DiCaprio gifted a Bosch monograph to Pope Francis on the occasion of his audience at the Vatican, and in May, the Prado prepares to host the largest monographic exhibition of the artist’s works. The devil’s, of course, in the detail, so bring your magnifying glass! museodelprado.es

Francis Bacon: Invisible Rooms, Tate, Liverpool, UK: Despite zooming in on a very specific aspect of the Anglo-Irish master, this exhibition – billed as a blockbuster – manages to incorporate over 30 paintings, plus numerous drawings and documents. tate.org.uk

Champagne Life
Champagne Life/Exhibitionism, Saatchi Gallery, London, UK: The title of Saatchi Gallery’s first group show focussed squarely on female artists does not bode well (“women be drinkin’ bubbly” clichés aren’t exactly forward-thinking), but the sculpture and paintings on show give an inspiring overview of emerging female talents. To counter the oestrogen overdose, visitors can indulge in a testosterone-fuelled Rolling Stones retrospective as of April. saatchigallery.com [Photo of works by Jelena Bulajic & Virgile Ittah]

En Plein Air,
En Plein Air, la Boverie, Liège, Belgium: The title of the first art exhibition to be held in this new museum translates as “outside.” Quite fitting for a building, once constructed to host the 1905 World’s Fair, surrounded by man-made natural beauty and permeated by natural light. Around 60 works depicting outdoor activities, by painters like Renoir, Manet, Monet and Cézanne were selected, to examine the treatment of public life in 18th-century art. laboverie.com

David Bowie is,
David Bowie is, Groninger Museum, Groningen, The Netherlands: Not a new exhibition, but the last chance in a while to see a fantastic old one. The Victoria and Albert Museum’s David Bowie retrospective was electrifying the day it launched, and remains enlightening now that the artist IS no longer. The travelling exhibition’s run at the Groninger Museum has been extended, and a venue in Asia is already being negotiated for 2017. groningermuseum.nl

Setouchi Triennale, Japan: The small islands dotting the Seto Inland Sea, which separates 4 of Japan’s main islands, host a large-scale triennial that is a world away from your standard day at the museum. Manus x Machina:
Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, The Metropolitan Museum, New York, USA: All eyes are on the Met Gala every year, as the biggest names in fashion and entertainment parade their most outrageous outfits up the museum’s Fifth Avenue steps. The ensuing Met Costume Institute’s spring exhibition is an equally entertaining affair, examining the art – and this year the technology – of dressmaking. metmuseum.org[Photo: Wikimedia Commons/Fcb981]

Doris and Donald Fisher Collection,
Doris and Donald Fisher Collection, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, USA: It was once the first museum of contemporary art on the West Coast and will soon be the largest of its kind in the US. When the SFMoMA opens in May, it’s doing it in sprawling style, more than tripling its exhibition space. The museum will host several inaugural exhibitions curated from the Fisher Collection of 20th and 21st century art, with themes ranging from American Abstraction and German Art after 1960 to British Sculptors. sfmoma.org [Photo: Andreas Gursky]
